Family and friends attended funeral services Monday morning for the man who served in the state Senate longer than any other Long Islander.
Both Democrats and Republicans came together for Owen Johnson's funeral.
Johnson died last week of natural causes at the age of 85. He was laid to rest in Amityville.
Johnson served the people of Babylon and Islip for four decades before retiring in 2012, and was the longest tenured state senator in Long Island's history. Johnson helped create the powerful "Long Island Nine," the influential Republican delegation.
His colleagues say he was simply a man who just wanted to help others.
