The pilot killed in a Shirley plane crash was laid to rest today. Funeral services were held today for David McElroy, of Orient, at the Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Sayville. The 53-year-old father of seven died last weekend in a fiery plane crash in Shirley. McElroy owned the single-engine plane that crashed shortly after takeoff. Witnesses say they believe he tried his best to avoid homes before hitting a tree and crashing into a Dumpster on the street. A married couple from Goshen who were interested in buying the plane were also on board.
