A funeral was held Monday morning for a former Long Island firefighter killed in a North Carolina blaze.
Victor Isler was killed battling a fire in a furniture factory. Fire officials say the 40-year-old ran back into the burning building to try to save his partner. Both died in the blaze.
The former Deer Park volunteer firefighter had moved to North Carolina last year to pursue his dream of being a full-time firefighter. Family members say Isler had been turned down by the FDNY due to his age.
Those who worked with Isler say he was a top-notch firefighter who had a passion for the fire service. Isler leaves behind a wife and two teenage children.
