Friends, family search for missing veteran in Lake Ronkonkoma
Family and friends of a missing veteran from Patchogue went door-to-door in Lake Ronkonkoma as part of their monthlong search for the woman.
Janet Barra, a Navy veteran who has post-traumatic stress disorder, was last seen on June 5 in surveillance video taken at a Medford strip mall, north of Route 112.
Her daughter, Rebecca Barra, saved her last text from her mom on June 4.
"She said she was going to rent a room from somebody in Lake Ronkonkoma. I did see on her bank statements that she was buying things in this area," she says.
The volunteers spread out into the neighborhoods around Lake Ronkonkoma handing out a flier in hopes someone knows where Barra is.
"I'm hoping to get the word out there to as many Long Islanders so they can have her eyes open to look out for her," says Barra.
Janet Barra, 58, is described as 5 foot 7 inches tall, 210 pounds with brown eyes and olive skin. She often wears glasses and wigs. Authorities are urging anyone who sees her to call police.
