Today marked one year since Superstorm Sandy ripped through Long Island.

The storm left many neighborhoods unrecognizable, including Freeport.

News 12 Long Island's Elizabeth Hashagen went back to Freeport to talk to the owner of Tropix, Chris Squeri.

Tropix was destroyed by a fire when Sandy's 6-foot high floodwaters prevented firefighters from getting to the flames.

While most of the businesses along the Nautical Mile were open for the summer season, there are still about 300 village properties in Freeport that have been vacant since the storm.

The signs of Sandy are on the streets with dumpsters in driveways, construction trucks and vacant lots waiting for homes.

However, many residents are hopeful Freeport will return to the way it was before the storm.
