Freeport police on Tuesday handed out tickets for free Slurpees to kids.
The citations were part of a nationwide program called "Operation Chill."
The tickets were good for a free Slurpee at any of the village's 7-Eleven locations.
Children were also provided with some back-to-school supplies.
Village Mayor Robert Kennedy said the effort was about trying to establish relationships between children and police at an early age.
