A Freeport contractor has been indicted in a multimillion-dollar fraud that was related to Superstorm Sandy.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says at least 20 homeowners paid Alexander Almaraz about $2.5 million total to lift their homes damaged by the storm.
He is accused of using the money to pay cred card bills and buy land and luxury cars.
If convicted, Almarez faces a maximum of 30 years in prison for each of the 20 charges.
