Suffolk County residents who rely on private well water can now apply for free testing for toxic PFAS chemicals.
Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced the testing is available through a state pilot program on Thursday.
The Private Well PFAS Testing and Mitigation Rebate Pilot Program is funded by a $1.5 million state grant to help residents address PFAS contamination.
The program is done by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.
People who get drinking water from the public water system are not eligible.
