The 8-year-old boy abducted in Manhattan was safely returned to his family after a wild ride that ended on Long Island.
Police say the alleged abductor stole the SUV in Manhattan around 3 p.m. on Tuesday with the boy in it. They say the woman was drunk behind the wheel and drove to the Northern State Parkway, where she pulled over and abandoned the car. Police say she then hitched a ride to the 6th precinct in Manhasset, where she turned over the boy and fled on foot. She was quickly tracked down by K9 dogs and arrested.A family driving on the Northern State Parkway westbound recognized the abandoned SUV near exit 34. They said because of the description they had seen on the Amber Alert signs over the road, they were able to recognize the license plate number and notify the police.The boy was recovered unharmed and returned to his family. The alleged abductor remains in police custody. Police are still investigating the incident.
