Some residents in Fort Salonga want changes to a stretch of road where multiple collisions have occurred.
Suffolk County police say 46-year-old Samuel Luby was driving westbound on Fort Salonga Road Thursday when he lost control of his car and struck a tree just west of Makamah Road. Luby was airlifted to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
In February, two 26-year-olds were killed in a crash after police say the driver lost control of their vehicle and also hit a tree. Both crashes are under investigation.
To make the stretch of road more safe, one residents says they would like to see the tree hit in both crashes removed, in addition to moving the guardrail there closer to the actual road.
News 12 in April received a letter from the Department of Transportation saying, "all existing signs and pavement markings were installed properly. However, we will enhance existing signs to inform upstream motorists of the curve."
