Former Suffolk DA Thomas Spota released from federal prison

As News 12 has reported, the 82-year-old was convicted in 2019 of trying to cover up ex-Suffolk Police Chief James Burke’s beating of a handcuffed suspect.

Former Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota has been released from a federal prison in Connecticut.

The release comes less than three years into Spota’s five-year sentence.

As News 12 has reported, the 82-year-old was convicted in 2019 of trying to cover up ex-Suffolk Police Chief James Burke’s beating of a handcuffed suspect.

News 12 has been told Spota was transferred from the federal correctional institution in Danbury to community confinement.

Spota is expected to be released from community confinement in March.
