A former Plainview resident's mother is among the missing in the aftermath of the Miami-area building collapse.
Rachel Spiegel is devasted as rescue crews continue to search for loved ones in Champlain Towers South. Spiegel's mom, Judy, was believed to be at home in her condo when the 12-story building collapsed Thursday.
"I want to tell my New York family, my Long Island family that I need help and support. I need their love," says Spiegel.
The last day and a half has been an emotional rollercoaster for Rachel and her family. Judy is a doting mother of three and grandmother of three.
"It's just awful. You know, the reality is setting in," says Rachel. "Nobody's been found yet. Nobody's been alive."
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says President Joe Biden has pledged financial support and says he would send federal investigatory personnel if needed. It's still unclear what caused the 12-story residential building to suddenly crumble.
Rachel issued a message for all her family and friends saying, "Their texts, even though I don't respond, they're still motivating. They're helpful."
