A former New York Met says he is living his dream for the second time with the Long Island Ducks.
Three-time All-Star Daniel Murphy hasn't played professional baseball in nearly three years, but says he got the itch to play again around eight months ago.
He says he joined the Ducks for love of the game and the thrill of competition.
"These guys in this league are trying to eat you and if you can't hunt, you'll be hunted," Murphy says.
Ducks Manager Wally Backman says Murphy is going to be a big asset to the team. He says his bat and his brains can help the team.
"We had a lot of guys in the cage with Murph," Backman says. "Murph can talk hitting and he's good at it."
Murphy, the only player in MLB history to hit home runs in six consecutive playoff games, says he hopes to see some Mets fans make their way to Central Islip.
"To be here in New York again and be able to compete with the fans, I'm looking forward to it," Murphy says.
Murphy and the Ducks start their season a week from Friday. Their home opener is May 2.
