Long Island families who rely on food stamps may have a harder time providing for their families.

Recipients are looking at a 5 percent cut in benefits, starting tomorrow. More than 47 million Americans will see cuts because a temporary benefit from the 2009 stimulus package has expired.

Depending on certain factors, a family of four could see $36 less per month.

A second round of even deeper cuts could also be on the horizon as Congress begins negotiating a final farm bill.
