Some Floral Park residents say they don't want to open their pool to residents from a nearby community.

Nadia Holubnyczyj-Ortiz, the head of the Floral Park Civic Association, and some other members of the group said at a meeting on Thursday that they were extremely upset to learn that the village board decided to offer 40 pool memberships to neighboring New Hyde Park residents, as well as Floral Park business owners this summer.

Holubnyczyj-Ortiz says she is not upset with the people of New Hyde Park, but is unhappy that the board didn't tell village residents about the invitation until six weeks after it was approved.

“We're the taxpayers. We fund the pool and we're the last ones to find out," she says.
Village officials say the reason they extended the invitation was because Clinton G. Martin Park district pool in New Hyde Park is undergoing renovations this year and unavailable to residents.  Also, they say membership at the Floral Park village pool was down by 40 memberships last year, so they thought it could be a great way to make up the difference.

The civic association head says she has a petition with more than 800 signatures asking the board to rescind the invitation.  She says she plans to present it to them at the next village board meeting on June 6
