The fear of flooding from Friday's expected rain and melted snow has Long Islanders who live in coastal communities preparing for the worst.
In Long Beach, crews were out Thursday with heavy equipment removing snow from various intersections. In Syosset, crews have been clearing snow away from storm drains.
Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino says 17 crews comprising of 70 workers started with areas of that town that are most prone to flooding.
Some residents in Lindenhurst say they are all too familiar with how to prepare for floodwaters.
"We've got vehicles. We know there's a flood coming, we just park them up the street. I guess we're just kind of used to it down here," said resident Tom Bauman.
News 12 Long Island meteorologists say rain will be heavy at times Friday evening. Temperatures during the day are expected to be in the upper-50s.
