A landscaper from Flanders has died after he was hit Tuesday by a driver who was allegedly under the influence of drugs.
Investigators say Brianna Hassett told police that she had recently smoked marijuana, then took heroin and Xanax before hitting Anibal Aceituno-Perez, 52, with her car in Ridge.
The Flanders landscaper was on a ride-on lawnmower at the corner of Route 25 and Pleasant View Road when the crash happened. Aceituno-Perez suffered several critical injuries, including a fractured spine.
Hassett pleaded not guilty to a driving while ability impaired charge during her arraignment Wednesday. She is due back in court Sept. 19.
