Nassau Police say five suspected members of a South American theft ring were arrested in a joint investigation with the NYPD.
The suspects are accused of trying to break into a home on South King Street in Elmont Monday morning.
Investigators say they were using a high-tech device called an electronic Wi-Fi scrambler, which interrupted police radio signals.
A security consultant told News 12 the devices also disable home security technology, including ring doorbell cameras, garage door openers and smart locks.
The suspects are identified as Carolina Diana Giraldo Franco, Luis Eduardo Giraldo Franco, Jonathan Runza Vergara, Yeison Enrique Beltran Avila and Kevin Sebastian Baez Barragan.
All five were charged with attempted burglary. Three of the defendants were held on bail. Two were released with GPS monitoring devices.
