Officials say a fire leveled a garage in Middle Island. 

The incident happened at a detached garage located on Swezeytown Road around 10 p.m. yesterday. 

Police tell News 12 a man was doing mechanical work on one of the five motorcycles or three cars in the garage and left for a few minutes. 

According to police, when he came back the garage was on fire, but did not spread to the nearby home. 

A total of three people and five animals were evacuated from the home as a precaution.
