The frigid temperatures Friday made it difficult for firefighters on the East End as they battled a raging, wind-driven blaze that destroyed multiple buildings on Sag Harbor's Main Street.
Cellphone video captured the flames ripping through five businesses, including the beloved historic Sag Harbor Cinema.
The Sag Harbor Fire Department says the call came in around 6:15 a.m. Nineteen fire departments and more than 150 firefighters battled the fast-moving fire.
The Sag Harbor fire chief says that due to Main Street basically being a sheet of ice, coupled with the strong winds, this was one of the most difficult fires they have ever had to fight.
The chief says the fire does not appear to be suspicious. The village's fire marshal is investigating.
