Fire officials say a fire that broke out at a home in East Islip early Friday morning has left a woman dead.
Officials say the fire broke out at a home on Washington Avenue around 2 a.m.
A video shared with News 12 by a viewer shows the flames overtaking the home that the fire chief also says included a basement apartment.
Officials say that six residents were in the home at the time of the fire. Laurie Addeo, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The chief says a man on the scene told firefighters his wife was trapped in a bedroom on the second floor.
Chief Tom Quagliara says, "We had reports of occupants trapped, and attempts were made to gain entry, but at that particular point in time the conditions just didn't permit it."
He adds, "They put a ladder up, they tried to gain entry, again, the volume of fire and the heat prohibited them from making entry."
News 12 is told nine departments battled the fire.
The victim's husband, his mother, and three tenants, including a woman, a man and their 10-year-old son, all escaped the residence unharmed.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives believe the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
