At least 17 fire departments responded to a fire in Mineola Thursday, the Nassau Fire Marshal's Office says.
Fire officials say the flames broke out just before 1 p.m. at 159 Jericho Turnpike in Mineola. The building houses Piccola Bussola restaurant.
Officials say two firefighters sustained minor injuries from the fire.
Fire officials say the flames broke out on the roof of the first floor, and high winds caused it to spread to other buildings.
"There was nobody but workers in the restaurant, but there were people at home in the apartments above. Those people, there's six adults and I believe one child. They've been displaced obviously, we've brought in the Red Cross, they're finding them housing for the night or so at the very least," says Mineola Village Mayor Scott Strauss.
A GoFundMe for the restaurant says the fire caused "unrepairable damages."
The restaurant will be closed until further notice, according to a post on its Facebook page.
