6-alarm fire erupts at commercial facility in Westbury, 27 departments respond

Residents told News 12 Long Island that the smoke could be seen miles away.

A massive six-alarm fire erupted at Jamaica Ash and Rubbish Removal in Westbury Wednesday night, resulting in a response by 27 fire departments and the suspension of LIRR service near the area. 
The fire marshal told News 12 Long Island a call came in for a building fire at 568 Covert Lane at 8:49 p.m.

The area has several commercial facilities and is also near the Long Island Rail Road tracks.

Train service was suspended in both directions between Hicksville and Mineola.
Residents told News 12 Long Island that the smoke could be seen miles away.
So far, there are no injuries reported and the cause of fire is currently unknown.
