Fire officials are investigating what caused the massive fire that destroyed a pool supply store in Seaford.
The fire broke out just before 3 p.m. Monday at Island Recreational on Hicksville Road. General Manager Roger Karpioch says he and his employees saw the lights flash and heard popping noises coming from the ceiling. They evacuated after they saw smoke.
Around 100 firefighters from 13 different departments responded to the fire. Hazmat crews were also brought in to test the air due to concerns over chemicals inside the store catching fire. Firefighters say the reading came out normal.
A barbershop and Chinese restaurant which neighbored Island Recreational in the shopping center both suffered fire and water damage. A work van belonging to the Comfort Cooling company was also destroyed in the fire.
