Fire crews were watching hotspots Thursday evening after a raging fire broke out at a Suffolk recycling plant.
Witnesses say a massive fireball suddenly erupted at Gershow Recycling Corporation on Muncy Avenue around 10 a.m.
“We saw a cloud of black smoke, and then all of a sudden it ballooned into this dark, thick cloud of smoke, and we saw the flames coming out,” says Steve Labate.
According to first responders, a two-story pile of debris mostly made up of metal and plastic is what fueled the flames.
Officials say it took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. It was not immediately clear what sparked the fire or if there were any injuries.
News 12 reported on other fires at Gershow’s Medford plant in 2015 and 2016.
