Delicatessens across New York are experiencing a shortage of square knishes following a fire at a Long Island factory.

A September fire at the Gabila's factory in Copiague brought knish production to a screeching halt. Gabila's typically produces 15 million square knishes a year. The five Ben's Deli locations in New York sell 10,000 Gabila's knishes a week combined.

Ben's has been pushing its homemade knishes amid the shortage, but can't fool the faithful.

"I had to settle for a round one," Ben's patron Carmine Camenzuli, who calls himself an "old school knish eater," told News 12 Long Island. "Don't taste like the square knish."

News 12 Long Island is told the knish shortage is expected to end by Thanksgiving.
