Officials are telling Long Islanders to be vigilant but not afraid when they join millions in Manhattan for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. 
New York City's Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says there will be more police than ever before protecting the parade route.
Taking a break from rehearsals in Bethpage, the cast of "The Wiz" was rehearsing in front of Macy's flagship store Tuesday night.
The cast will perform a week before their live NBC show from Grumman Studios in Bethpage.
Wednesday was a gridlock alert day in part because street closures started at 1 p.m. for balloon inflation. No cars are allowed at West 79th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues. West 76th through West 81st is closed between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues.
