The battle to save Long Island's water quality rages on.

Lawmakers and scientists gathered on Thursday for the sixth annual Long Island Water Conference to discuss strategies and evaluate progress.

Nitrogen overload from antiquated cesspools, chemical contaminants, superfund sites and recently discovered contaminated wells south of Gabreski Airport in West Hampton are all posing a serious threat to Long Island's ground and surface water.

Scientists and lawyers agree on what the issues are and say that, for the first time, they are on the right path to reversing the problems.
