A recently opened rest stop along the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills is reportedly breaking federal law.
The Federal Highway Administration says the new 'Welcome Center' that opened in October on the eastbound LIE is conducting illegal over-the-counter sales.
The $20 million rest stop sells locally grown food and beverages to promote tourism.
Officials say only vending machines should be allowed at the location.
According to multiple reports, the feds are citing a law claiming over-the-counter sales inside the rest stop take away from local restaurant sales.
The state DOT believes the sales are allowed.
