The Food and Drug Administration is making changes to mammography standards that could potentially help more women detect breast cancer earlier.
The new regulation will require mammogram providers to notify women if they have dense breast tissue.
It would also require facilities to recommend that patients consult with a doctor about whether they need additional screening.
The agency says having dense breasts has been associated with up to a four times higher risk of developing breast cancer.
