FDA advisory committee to discuss strain-specific COVID-19 vaccines

The FDA advisory committee is meeting today to discuss whether a strain-specific COVID-19 vaccine should be in the works and how soon it could made available to the public.
The current COVID vaccines are based on the virus that emerged in late 2019.
Experts are looking at whether one vaccine should specifically target the Omicron variant.
Health officials anticipate COVID vaccines will need to be administered annually, like the flu shot.
