(04/01/08) NEW CASSEL ? The father of two children allegedly killed by their mother in New Cassel is planning to sue Nassau County and other agencies for failing to heed previous threats and claims of child abuse.
?The county and its agencies ignored the threat and were indifferent to the children?s safety and well-being,? said Sanford Pirotin, the attorney representing the children?s father, Innocent Demesyeux.
Leatrice Brewer allegedly drowned her three children, ages 6, 5 and 18 months, more than a month ago. Demesyeux was the father of the 5-year-old and 18-month-old boys killed in the incident.
Demesyeux said he knows the lawsuit will not bring his children back, but he hopes it serves as a wake-up call to the county in future cases.
?I hope they take it seriously,? said Demesyeux. ?When parents are concerned about their kids that they take it seriously.?
Representatives from the Nassau County Police Department and the county executive?s office told News 12 Long Island they can?t comment on pending litigation. Social Services did respond to requests for comment.
