Severe thunderstorms bring heavy rain, lightning strikes across Long Island
A wind advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. as a strong cold front and cold air moves through the area.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued earlier in the day across Long Island, and even a tornado warning was in effect in parts of Nassau, but all have since passed.
Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph gusting up to 45 mph are possible through early Wednesday.
Tonight, showers will end by 9 p.m. with temperatures dropping to 31 degrees with wind chills 20 to 25 degrees.
Expect mostly sunny skies Wednesday with highs near 52 degrees.
