Farmingville is a major battleground for illegal immigration and some residents say it's ruining their image. On Monday, a meeting was held to decide if changing the community?s name would help its reputation. Residents met at the Chippewa Elementary School in Holtsville to discuss changing Farmingville's name to Oak Hills. Some pushing for the change live in the western section of Farmingville, which has been a center point for day laborer controversy. While some say the problem is hurting their property value, others argue illegal immigration can't be fixed on a local level. Twenty percent of eligible voters must support the name change before it can be submitted to the Brookhaven Town Board for review.
