A 23-year-old woman who lost a friend during the Las Vegas massacre organized a fundraiser Saturday at the Medwell Spa and Yoga Studio in Farmingdale.
Brittani Randazzo, a stylist, felt compelled to do something for the victims after her friend Brennan Stewart, 30, was killed during the shooting rampage at country music festival. She says he died while acting as a human shield for his girlfriend.
"No matter what the situation was, no matter who needed help, he was there," says Randazzo. "It's such a shame such a great person was taken so early."
Randazzo came up with the idea to donate all proceeds from the hair blowouts, spa services and yoga classes to victims of the shooting.
"We backed her up as a company. We wanted to do something to support her," said Barbara Cohen, of Medwell Spa.
Medwell Spa hoped to raise $2,000 from Saturday's event.
Meanwhile, gunman Stephen Paddock's body was sent to Stanford University for forensic analysis. A neuro-pathological examination of his brain tissue has been scheduled and an autopsy will be performed.
