Long Island commuters may have to dig a little deeper to get into the city on the Long Island Rail Road. The MTA is looking at another fare hike, claiming it needs to make up $900 million in its budget for next year. The MTA says the financial crunch is due to rising fuel prices and declining tax revenues. Executives will be meeting Wednesday to discuss the possible increase. If the hike is approved, it would be only the second time that fares and tolls were increased in consecutive years.Commuters at the Hicksville train station weren't pleased when hearing an 8-percent hike could be in the cards. One commuter said he wasn't surprised though, since prices for other goods and services are also going up.
