Tropical Storm Hanna, which is churning in the Caribbean, has been causing trouble on Long Island shores.
Hanna?s strong winds created large waves and high tides early Monday morning that caused Robert Moses State Park to close the waters for swimming for several hours.
?We didn't know if someone would risk their lives, but we didn't want to take that chance,? New York State Parks official George Gorman says. ?It's extremely rough. Someone could have been pulled out to sea.?
The storm also caused the beach to disappear, both at Robert Moses and Jones Beach, allowing smaller, shallow pools of water to form. Swimmers didn?t seem to mind, especially the young ones for who the rough ocean may have been too dangerous.
The beach at Robert Moses was reopened to swimming once the storm calmed down.
