A Manhasset soldier killed in Iraq last week was hailed as a hero in his hometown Friday.
Army Sergeant James Regan was celebrated and mourned by friends and family during a ceremony at Saint Mary's Church. Regan died after a roadside bomb detonated near his vehicle. He served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and was in the middle of his second tour in Iraq. The 26-year-old graduated from Chaminade High School and Duke University and planned to be wed next February.
A private burial is scheduled for Monday at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
