Family and friends came together in Hempstead today to raise awareness about an unsolved hit-and-run that killed a teen.
Oscar Veliz was fatally struck three years ago on Clinton Avenue as he rode his bike. The driver fled the scene and was never caught.
Relatives and friends gathered at the crash site carrying signs and photos of the victim. Their goal was to make the community aware that Veliz's killer was never brought to justice, in the hopes that someone with information will come forward.
Veliz's mother, Yolany Veliz, says police haven't done enough to solve the case, and accused them of not giving her son's death enough attention.
The Nassau County Police Department said in a statement that the case is still actively under investigation.
Police say the driver was in a tan or gold Toyota Camry. Anyone with information is urged to call 1-800-244-TIPS.
