An Amityville family is mourning the loss of a husband and father after he was killed Friday by an alleged drunk driver going the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway.Wanda Crayton is left without a husband and a father to her six children after her husband, Leslie Burgess, died in a fiery collision on the Southern State Parkway at exit 13. Forty-five-year-old Burgess was returning home after a gig as a DJ in Brooklyn.
State police say Burgess died at the scene when 21-year-old Franklin McPherson drove his Lexus the wrong way on the parkway, slamming head-on into Burgess' Jeep Cherokee.
Family and friends remember Burgess as a churchgoing man who loved his family more than anything else in the world. McPherson faces felony DWI and vehicular manslaughter charges. But, Burgess' widow says no penalties can compare with the life sentence of heartache she and her children must endure.
