A man who knew a Nesconset grandmother for years is charged with her stabbing death.
Police arrested 20-year-old Victor Chunga Tuesday. Authorities say he broke into 70-year-old Martha Watson's home Saturday through a window and stabbed the woman more than 24 times.
Chunga then allegedly stabbed his longtime friend, Matt Watson, who is the victim's grandson. Matt Watson survived. Police say the pair has known each other since elementary school. Matt Watson was arrested earlier this year for heroin possession, as was Chunga. Investigators say Chunga was searching for heroin in the home.
Chunga is being held without bail. He is charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
A distraught neighbor said Martha Watson was like a grandmother to her children.
