Dozens of parents and children delivered baked goods and cards to the policing center in Levittown Wednesday as a show of appreciation for those who serve in the community.
The act of kindness comes in the wake of targeted assaults on police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge.
"A bunch of moms wanted to take up a collection and do something nice for the officers," said Christine Zegers, who organized the event online. "We feel there is so much hate towards them right now, we just wanted to show some love."
Organizing families said more cards and cookies are set to be delivered to all the Nassau and Suffolk police precincts.
"I want to just give everyone a hug because this was really, really a nice thing," said Detective Vincent Garcia. "The one thing we all have on our minds is, at the end of the day, we just all want to go back and kiss our families."
