A Mastic soldier killed in Iraq was laid to rest by a grieving community Wednesday.
Friends and family gathered for the funeral of 24-year-old Paolo Marko Pacificador at St. Jude's Church. A roadside bomb struck Pacificador's vehicle last week, killing him and two fellow soldiers.
Timmy Green remembered his friend. "[Pacificador] was a leader. He was a really, really good guy and he did everything. [He] wanted to make everyone feel really special, really good. [He] went out of his way for a lot of people."
Pacificador, a private first class in the Army, was posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal. He received six awards during the ceremony, including the bronze star and the Purple Heart.
The fallen Mastic soldier was buried at Calverton National Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
