Seamens Neck Road in Seaford is closed in both directions tonight after fire officials say a downed wire caused a gas main to catch fire.

The flames broke out outside two homes around 6:30 a.m.

Both homes were evacuated for about three hours.

Fire officials the pole holding the wire in place did not collapse into the roadway. They say once the gas was completely shut off, firefighters were able to get the flames under control.

Both homes were inspected and deemed safe, and nobody was hurt, according to fire officials.

Crews were working at that scene as of Sunday evening. Nassau police advise drivers to avoid the area.
