A memorial at Lido Beach was dedicated Wednesday to a Garden City Marine who died fighting in Iraq two years ago.
Family members say 1st Lt. Michael LiCalzi loved to surf, so it is fitting for a street and surfboard rack at Lido Beach to now bear his name.
Surfing didn't come easily to LiCalzi at first, but his parents say he approached it with the same perseverance he did everything else. He kept at it until he succeeded, they say.
LiCalzi?s father Gregory says his son planned to go surfing when he got back from his first tour of duty in Iraq.
His parents say the heartache is still unbearable two years later.
