Utility crews are working to restore power to thousands of northern New Jersey residents who lost power Tuesday afternoon when a high tension wire fell down near Interstate 80.
As of 10 p.m., around 4,000 Jersey Central Power & Light customers remained in the dark. JCP&L says around 60,000 customers were without power at one point.
The company says the wire came down on I-80 in Morris County and sparked a brush fire. The highway was closed for a time in the area while the fire was extinguished.
The power outage comes as New Jersey dealt with an eighth day of temperatures above 90 degrees.
