Fall festival held for child with rare form of cancer
The East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Babylon rallied together Saturday to raise money for a toddler with a rare form of cancer.
Jessica Michaelos says her daughter, Autumn, was 16 months old when she was diagnosed with fibromatosis soft tissue sarcoma last November.
"She has been on three different types of chemotherapy treatments due to her tumor, not responding to anything," Michaelos told News 12.
When the staff at East Neck heard about Autumn, who is the granddaughter of one of their veteran nurses, they rallied together to host a fall festival to raise funds to help cover medical costs.
"Words can't express the way I feel. They went all out for us, for my granddaughter and I never knew the love and support inside this building," said Dawn Michaelos.
Kids of all ages enjoyed face painting, pumpkin decorating, raffles and music during the festivities.
The family is hoping a recent course of treatment will begin to shrink her tumor.
