A new scam targeting drivers involves E-ZPass text messages asking for late, unpaid toll payments.
It asks users to click a link and provide personal information.
The messages have been written a variety of ways, but all appear to be coming from a phone number outside the United States.
The New York State Thruways said in a statement, "please be advised this is not an authorized communication from E-ZPass, the New York State Thruway Authority or any other toll agency associated with E-ZPass. We advise you not to open or respond to such a message should you receive one."
E-ZPass says it never sends a text or e-mail asking for your personal information.
Also, any real communications from them will only direct you to its website.
