Residents of Oceanside are calling for the resignation of one of the sanitation commissioners after they say dozens of inappropriate Facebook posts were discovered.
Chairman of the Oceanside Sanitation Board Austin Graff says Ryan Hemsley is the commissioner who posted pictures that some residents found questionable. There are five commissioners on the sanitation board.
A few weeks ago, the board received a letter from a concerned resident. The letter included dozens of Facebook posts by Hemsley. Graff says the posts were anti-Semitic, homophobic, and anti-special needs. Graff says the posts are vile.
Graff says the board does not have the power to remove one of its commissioners. He says the only way for someone to step down is if the person resigns.
"As soon as I saw it I spoke with him," says Graff. "He confirmed to me that they were his and I asked him to resign. He has not done so as of yet."
Hemsley, who was elected in September, issued a statement to News 12 saying, "...What I've seen so far, not all the posts are mine. As I have stated numerous times I am so sorry to the people I have offended. It was never my intention and it is not who I am. I am looking forward to a thorough investigation."
