A civil rights group has filed a complaint against Nassau, accusing the county of ignoring fair housing laws and promoting discrimination.
A Syosset nonprofit group called ERASE Racism filed the complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development claiming that Nassau County has given millions of HUD grant dollars to communities with housing policies that discriminate against minorities.
ERASE Racism says the county has promoted segregation through its affordable housing policies, which it says are mainly concentrated in African-American communities.
Nassau County tells News 12, "This charge is false, misleading and a complete misconception and distortion of the facts."
HUD confirmed to News 12 that it will be launching an investigation into the group's claims.
